Boy's Results

This year=s boy=s Volleyball team was awesome! We had a great time playing in both of our tournaments, HDCH and Burlington Trinity.

In our first game at HDCH, we played Hamilton. We lost the first game, but came back and won the next two games.

For our second game, we played Jarvis. They on the other hand, let=s just say they weren=t at our playing level. We defeated them badly.

Our third game we played Dundas. They beat us, but we gave them a fight. Our first game against them, the score was 25 - 22. Our second game, the score was 25-18.

Since we won two out of the three games, we got to move onto the semi-finals. We played BCA. They one the first game, but we really showed them how we could play in the second and third games. And of course, being the crazy athletic school they are with the crazy Awin@ type coach, she began to freak out! After that we went to the finals against Dundas. We fell behind after a few great serves by them, but we caught up pretty fast. In the end of the first game we lost 25 - 23. In the second game we served first, but that didn=t last too long. After they got that point, they just lit up the court. Everything they did was pretty much perfect. Their serves were amazing, and were hard to return.  We lost 25 - 21. So that day we went home with a nice second place!

Our second tournament at Burlington Trinity, we also did exceptionally well.

In our first game we played Listowel. Knowing their past history in sports, they don=t really have a gift in sports. But that obviously isn=t true! They served first and got the first four points. But after we found out their way of play, we shut them down. We won the match in the first two games with a great margin in the score.

The second game we played Guelph. We also beat them in the first two games. We were playing great volleyball. Pretty much all of our passes were going to the setter.

The third game we played Dundas. We lost, but we still played with them. We only lost by two to four points in both of the games.

In our fourth game we played Kitchener. To move onto the semis we only needed to win one of the two games. The first game we lost 25 - 23, but in the second game we came back and won 25 - 22. We moved onto the semis! After winning that game, the whole team was pumped!!

In the semis we played Cambridge. They got first serve. Their server was quite annoying because he took about ten seconds of bouncing before he served, but we managed to return well.  We served, they returned, and we spiked it hard down on them. So now the score was 2 - 0. The end result was 15 - 2. Well, we tried, but hey we got third out of nine schools.

These two tournaments were a blast!!

Girls' Results

This year=s Girls= Volleyball team was great! We had a lot of fun at our first tournament (Redeemer), but at the second one in Dundas ... well, let=s just say we rocked!

Our first game was against Guelph. We had pretty even teams, but they won the first half. By the second half we were warmed up and ready, and we beat them.

For our second game, we played Listowel. We were a bit overconfident, and we started messing up. A little encouragement from our coach, Mrs. Mazereeuw, was all we needed to start playing better, and more like a team. We tied that game.

The third game we played, we lost, but we lost amazingly. Dundas was the hardest team to beat. They could set up plays, they could spike, and I only saw about two serves that didn=t make it over the net. They even had the advantage of playing at their own school! The first half of the game, we lost 10-25. Not Good! The second half, they put on their B team, because they thought they would cream us.

Well, we gave them a game! We came in really strong, and at one point, we were actually beating them! Their coach got mad! He switched his B team for his A team so that they wouldn=t lose. They ended up winning 25-22, but we were really close! We were actually the closest team to beating them!

Our fourth game was against Kitchener. This game only counted for their team, because we=d had three games already, but they hadn=t. Either way, we still tied them.

The last two games were for the placings. We played Drayton first, and beat them. Then we played BCA for Fifth and Sixth places. We beat them. By a lot! When that game was over, we all quickly got our stuff ready so we could get back to school before the buses left. One of the refs asked us why we were leaving, he thought the games we=d just played were the semis. Mrs. Mazereeuw ran to the head guy. When she came back, her face was bright red, and she had a huge smile! AWe=re getting a plaque!@ She exclaimed. We all got super excited and we all asked questions. Apparently we had won our pool, so we were in line for a plaque!

We received it and started home with happy and smiling faces! We all had to take turns holding and looking at the plaque. It said, AGuelph District Girls Volleyball Tournament. AA Champs!@

AA Champs!!! That=s our title. I guess you could take that two ways, but we just say we played awesome! It was a great day and we had a blast!!!

All Ontario Invitational Meet

This year our cross country team did exceptionally well, we won the Provincial cross country meet.! The day started with opening devotions led by Mr. Velthuis. Instead of doing the walk around, Mr.Summerhays took our team aside and said that we had a really good chance of winning the entire tournament. We did the end of the walk around and Mr.S gave us a few pointers.

The Junior girls race began, and all the teams were at the starting time cheering on their school. The race had a great start and Brantford girls were all right in the race. Walking and half jogging we made our way to the finish line where the first girls were coming in. The Brantford girls came in relatively close to each other making for a great finish. The junior boys and the rest of the team had very similar results with a few people coming in the top ten. That didn’t make much difference because our runners were so close we had minimal points. At the end of the day we waited in tense silence as the results were read out London had finished in 5th with 487 points, Dunnville was 4th with 461 points, Oakville, came in 3rd with 456 points, Burlington had arrived in 2nd place with 446 points and that is when Brantford knew we had come in first with 409 points. We ran down to retrieve the trophy and we all got a hand on it cheering excitedly as we lined up for our picture. Later on the way home on the bus, Mr.S (who was very excited as well) told us that 50 years later we would look back on this memory as one of the highlights in our grade school career.
